Today I went for a walk with my dog and suddenly a question popped in my head. Everyone talks about being healthy and stuff. I wondered what actually defines a “healthy” lifestyle and how can you achieve it? What does this term even mean? The thing is, I think there isn’t one correct definition to this. In my opinion it’s all about feeling comfortable in your own skin. But feeling comfortable isn’t only some kind of decision you make inside your head and after five minutes you will feel comfortable. I think there are two components, which are responsible for this. On one hand you have to love yourself on the inside (like in a more mental way), which is often a huge challenge and on the other hand there is the outside “the body”, which in my opinion can be changed more easily.
But how can you change your outside if you want to be fit and healthy? And apart from that you don’t have endless time to go to the gym 6 times a week? Well, let me share with you my 5 TIPS FOR A HEALTHIER AND MORE ACTIVE LIFESTYLE, which can be easily integrated into your daily life. These tips aren’t any new inventions of course, but I think sometimes it’s helpful to just be reminded of it.
1. BUY HEALTHY – EAT HEALTHY
Simple but important! I know it’s hard to avoid buying “the good stuff” at the supermarket, but it’s essential! Instead of buying sweets, you could rather buy fresh fruits and make a smoothie or fruit bowl. Apart from that it has positive effects on your bank account as sweets are often more expensive than fruits ;-).
2. SHORT WORKOUTS ARE BETTER THAN NO WORKOUTS
I know, we all have stressful lives, but even if you come home late, try to squeeze in a short workout. 10 Minutes are better than nothing! Or you go by bike instead of taking the bus. Be brave and try to bring more physical activity into your daily life. Your body will thank you.
3. TREAT YOURSELF PURPOSEFUL
If you won’t treat yourself every now and then, you will get frustrated and lose motivation. Schedule a dinner date with your friends or cook yourself something tasty. Know your metes and bound!
4. SELF COOKING IS EVERYTHING
Cooking your own meals at home can save money and has positive effects on your shape. When you’re eating in a restaurant it’s in my opinion more likely that you choose the unhealthier option (pizza, pasta etc.). At least that’s the case with me. I’m not able to have lunch in a restaurant and order a salad and I think I’m not the only one. If you are able to then GOOD JOB :).
5. RAISE AWARNESS
Sounds a bit stupid but one of the most important things if you want to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Educate yourself on different foods and physical activities. Maybe it will arouse interest and you will enjoy it. Apart from that it’s important to listen to your body. If you feel like you are unable to tolerate certain kinds of foods, then avoid it.
